Systems Engineer

We are looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join our professional, expert and friendly team in Letchworth.

Job purpose

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in controls and automation engineering with a leaning or desire towards working with special purpose manufacturing/test machines varying in complexity and technology from legacy systems to the cutting edge.
  • You will be client focussed in order to deliver systems on time and to a high quality that you can be proud of.
  • ALPHR Technology uses an industry standard architecture of PLC with HMI & SCADA systems to deliver our automation machines.
  • You will undertake control system design with a mix of the vee model and agile methods, utilising the best of both worlds in order to deliver well documented, timely and cutting edge systems.
  • Supporting the senior system/software engineers during your day to day work to function as a cohesive and dynamic team of diverse people in a welcoming environment.
  • You should be comfortable with working with all stakeholders in a project, particularly with the client in both on and off site locations in the UK and around the world.
  • You will work with a global team of people within ALPHR Technology and with our technical partners around the world.

Main responsibilities

The main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and integrating as a class owner or domain expert:
    • Rich and intuitive user interfaces.
    • Software drivers.
    • Functional software.
    • Communications Interfaces.
    • Robot control.
    • Vision systems.
    • Artificial intelligence systems.
    • Industry 4.0 systems.
    • Safety Related Systems.
  • Developing engineering specifications from customer requirements.
  • Design software and systems to specification, cost and time targets.
  • Software/System problem solving in both legacy and new special purpose machines.
  • Carry out unit, regression and integration testing at all phases of development.
  • Contribute to design standard compliance including CE / UK CA approvals.
  • Draft operating, instruction and maintenance manuals
  • Contribute to the technical construction file
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation
  • Contribute to off and on site customer support
  • Preparing and presenting control system designs for review
  • Highlight all system technical risks to senior engineers, discipline and project managers
  • Comply with departmental processes, typically the waterfall method and agile development is used
  • Carrying out design change requests
  • Work with electrical and mechanical teams integrating all disciplines into the design
  • Works with production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture
  • Reporting progress of all projects to Engineering Management and Project Management teams
  • Producing demonstration systems with ALPHR software
  • Developing prototypes and proofs of concept with our strategic partners
  • Taking responsibility for you and your colleagues wellbeing within the workplace

Qualifications, experience & attributes

  • Demonstrable experience working in the Automation, Software or Systems Engineering field with focus on a good selection of the following areas:
    • Robot programming and commissioning (functional and safety)
    • PLC (ALPHR focus is on Siemens S7 1200/1500 and Omron NX at present)
    • Safety related systems development
    • Vision systems such as Keyence, Cognex and Omron
    • Coding in C#, Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic.NET would be advantageous but not essential
    • HMI and SCADA systems such as Movicon or Siemens MindSphere/Mendix.
    • Digital Twin / Virtual Commissioning platforms and processes
  • Experience with GIT (Currently use BitBucket) software version control
  • Ability to use Microsoft Visual Studio (2017 onwards) where Coding is a skill (advantageous but not essential)
  • Understanding of Vision, Robot, production line testing, Programmable Logic Controllers and other automation technology is desirable
  • Experience using Jira/Trello or an equivalent system
  • Ability to write clear and comprehensive technical documentation
  • Highly analytical mind, with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to create highly creative and innovative solutions to our clients' problems
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical people in a visually and verbally
  • Ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • A minimum of BTEC Level 4/5, HND/HNC in a relevant field to Automation/Special purpose machines and/or Software/System design
  • Aspiration, or eligibility, to register at Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with a recognised Engineering institution

Desirable experience/abilities:

  • Electrical design within the domain of special purpose machines

Electrical and Software Engineer

A world leading supplier of Automation and Special Purpose Equipment is looking for a talented, enthusiastic Software Engineer to help deliver strategic growth within a specific geographical area.

Job purpose

This exciting opportunity is a massive career step for any ambitious and technical driven individual  looking to join a genuine market leader. With our head office in the UK, the successful candidate will be based in our Arad facility, joining a young, dynamic team and looking to help build on success the company has already achieved.

Reporting directly to the Software Design Manager, the Software Engineer will be an integral member of the team. The successful Software Engineer will have joint responsibility for ensuring best quality products and services to our clients.

Other main responsibilities will include:

  • As part of Software & Electrical Design team will design and develop electrical schematics and software for the newly implemented machines, and will ensure the debug of the machines.
  • Being part of the equipment development team, will provide valuable input for al the phases of product development.
  • Create bill of materials for new machines as well as for service activities.
    Provide technical support in his field of expertise to whole Engineering Team
  • Ensuring remote and on-site service for the equipment delivered to our clients.
  • Provide technical support to whole Engineering Team.
  • Technical participation in machines building (electrical and mechanical).
  • Manage personal tasks during the projects.
    Machine electrical evaluation and debug during assembly.
  • Technical support for the customers after machines delivery.

You will need

  • Good computer programming skills in .NET.
  • Good electrical and pneumatics knowledge.
  • Good automation knowledge – sensors, electrical actuators, functioning and parameter setting.
  • Knowledge of an electrical CAD software is an advantage.
  • Basic PLC knowledge is an advantage.
  • Robot programming knowledge is an advantage,
  • Basic knowledge of vision systems for automated visual inspection is an advantage.
  • Good communication abilities.
  • High school degree in a technical discipline.
  • Bachelor degree (university degree) in a technical discipline.
  • Good computer skills MS Office
  • Good English language level - verbal and writing
  • Clean driving license
  • Available to travel in business purpose
  • You must be able to commute to Arad, Romania

Desirable:

  • Background in the Automotive field
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in a similar position
